About the Orchestra

Origins and Aims

amicus is a high quality chamber orchestra, founded in 2008 by former members of Camerata Scotland, and based in Central Scotland.

amicus aims to bridge the gap between amateur and professional orchestras, by providing a top quality ensemble for experienced amateurs, music students and professionals.

Concert Venues

The inaugural concert took place in October 2008 in Edinburgh's Greyfriars Kirk. Most of our subsequent performances have taken place in the magnificent surroundings of St Andrew's in the Square, in Glasgow's Merchant City.

Organisation

amicus is run by a committee of orchestra members. See contact page.
The orchestra currently stage two concerts per year, and also a strings and woodwind development course. These provide the opportunity to rehearse and perform challenging and varied repertoire with renowned conductors and soloists.

Financial Support

We would welcome any offers of financial support, since the orchestra is currently self-funded.
