Amicus is one of Scotland’s leading amateur orchestras which was founded by Alumni of the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland who wanted to keep up a high standard of playing into adult life. Amicus orchestra meets and performs about three times a year. Everyone applies to join amicus on a project by project basis..We don’t rehearse weekly like many orchestras but instead commit to a full weekend of intense rehearsals in preparation for a concert. In order to enjoy these rehearsals we advise players to have a miminum standard of Grade 8 (with strong sight-reading skills) to keep up with this fast-paced weekend. We also advise players to do some advance listening and practise so that they can fully enjoy the rehearsals and give their best. Players of all ages (over 16) are encouraged to apply and amicus also offers free scholarships to talented players under 26 years old.
We’d love to hear from you. Do get in touch with us via the contact form if you are interested in being part of our music making.
